공간의 조형성을 지속적으로 탐구하는 KDK(김도균)의 사진집『instagram@kdkkdk』는 아날로그와 디지털을 오가는 이미지의 ‘시간’과 ‘사유’의 개념을 화두로 던진다. 2011년부터 2,456일 동안 작가가 인스타그램을 통해 공유한 1,555장의 사진을 시간의 축으로 엮은 이 사진집은 2017년 을지로에 위치한 상업화랑에서 열린 《인스타그램》 전의 연장 선상에서 기획되었다.
폴라로이드 사진 모양으로 제작되어 벽을 빼곡히 메꾸며 전시된 1,555점의 사진은 ‘인스타그램’이라는 디지털 공간을 떠나 물성을 지닌 ‘프린트’로 탈바꿈하였고, 오브제가 된 사진은 관객의 선택과 구매에 따라 벽면에서 떼어졌다. 모든 사진 판매가 완료된 시점에 전시는 마무리되었고, 작가의 서명과 작품번호, 업로드 날짜가 기재된 모든 사진은 온라인에서 삭제되어 컬렉터가 소장하는 단 ‘하나’의 사진이 된다. ‘온라인’에서 ‘전시장’, 그리고 ‘관람자의 소장’으로 이어진 1,555점의 이미지는 ‘책’이라는 최종지에 도착한다.
이미지는 총 193명의 사진 구매자, 즉 컬렉터의 이름과 사진 넘버링을 기록한 인덱스와 함께 1,568페이지의 책에 수록된다. 스위스 바인딩으로 제본되고 케이스에 수납된 이 사진집은 500부의 리미티드 에디션으로 에디션 넘버와 작가 사인이 수록된다.
Korean artist KDK printed 1555 photos shared on his instagram page between 2011 and 2017 for an exhibition titled “Instagram.” When all of the prints had been sold, the exhibition finished and each of the images was deleted off instagram, turning the purchased copy into a one-of-a-kind image. This massive book presents a catalogue of each of the 1555 images together with the names of the collectors who purchased them.
The photographs underwent a process of being shared freely on an open website, to be exhibited in a limited space, to become private property, before finally becoming part of a photobook. The project examines questions of possession, time and communication regarding analog and digital images.
