요코 이케다는 평범해 보이는 사물에서 아름다움을 발견하고 그것을 특별한 피사체의 반열에 올려놓을 수 있는 특별한 능력을 가지고 있습니다. 이케다는 일상생활에서 움직이고 관찰하면서 마주치는 그림자, 색상, 선, 질감을 소재로 삼습니다.
카메라를 사용하여 우리가 보기 힘든 외부 세계를 본인만의 방식으로 바라보고 보여줍니다. 이케다의 작품에는 대부분 뚜렷한 기준점은 없습니다. 공간은 평평하고 추상적이며, 장소는 모호합니다. 그녀는 색다른 관점과 초점을 실험하곤합니다. 이케다는 형태와 빛의 대비를 추구하고 예상치 못한 프레이밍을 사용합니다.
이 책은 음악적이라고 할 수 있는 다채로운 연상 기법으로 구성된 시퀀스 덕분에 풍부해진 이 작품에 경의를 표하며 책 제목을 “Contrepoint (대위법)”이라 붙였습니다.

Yoko Ikeda has the extraordinary ability to see beauty in seemingly mundane objects and elevate them to the status of precious subjects. Ikeda plays with the shadows, colors, lines and textures she encounters while moving and observing everyday life.
Using her camera, she creates her own way of seeing and showing an outside world that we don't necessarily see at first glance. In Ikeda's compositions there is often no point of reference. The space is flattened and abstract, the place is ambiguous. She experiments with unusual points of view and focuses. Ikeda seeks contrasts of form and light and uses unexpected framing.
The book pays homage to this abundant work thanks to a sequence with multiple games of associations that could be described as musical, thus giving the book its title “Counterpoint”.
