“Y-31” presents 24 photographs taken in Yanaka, Japan, about one hour north-east of Tokyo in Ibaraki prefecture. A-CHAN spent her childhood in Yanaka, the place where her family house is situated. She took the 24 photographs years later, between 2007 and 2017, during visits after moving abroad. For the publication, A-CHAN added a hand-drawn map and a text.
“Y-31” is A-CHAN’s seventh photobook, and she has been included in the photobook anthology “How We See: Photobooks by Women”. A-CHAN lives and works in New York City.
