For his latest project, photographer Yann Audic explores Japan from the perspective of the outsider, mainly focusing on extraordinary banality, everyday things, and the commonplace. Describing himself as a “hunter” in pursuit of the “exotic ordinary” and “ecstatic normality” that so readily distinguish the cultural geography of Japan, Audic finds himself in urban settings and natural landscapes alike, his lens framing everything from street scenes and forgotten urban corners to picturesque natural scenes, intimate portraits, and snapshots of people at work and play in the city. The series presents a delicate vision of a place bathed in soft light and gentle colours.
